Why TrueRead

We built TrueRead because
contractors deserved a true read.

01

Why the picture is broken today.

A contracting business runs on a stack of systems that don't talk to each other. The CRM has leads. The accounting has invoices. The field app has hours. The marketing dashboard has spend. Nothing has the business.

So the owner does the reconciliation in their head. They remember the months that went well. They forget the months that didn't. They patch over the gaps with confidence, because that is what owners do — and because, most of the time, nothing else is available.

The result is a business run on the version of itself the owner wants to see. Which is fine in good years. In bad years it is what kills companies that didn't have to die.

02

What a true read changes.

A true read is not a dashboard. A dashboard is a place numbers live. A true read is the moment the picture clears, and the owner can finally see the business as it actually is — including the parts that contradict the story they've been telling.

When that picture is in front of you, the conversation changes. You stop debating which version of the month was right. You stop arguing about leads. You start naming the variance, and the person closest to it, and the call you're going to make about it on Tuesday.

The businesses on TrueRead don't make more decisions. They make the decisions they were already going to make — with a better picture in their hands.

03

Who TrueRead is for.

Contracting businesses doing $2M to $50M, run by owners who came up in the trade. Roofing first. Then exteriors, mechanical, and the rest of the trades that share the same shape — long jobs, hourly crews, deferred margin, slow cash.

We are not for franchises. We are not for general contractors building skyscrapers. We are not for businesses where the owner doesn't want to know.

04

What TrueRead refuses to be.

TrueRead is not an upsell engine. It will not tell you to buy more leads. It will not flatter the rep who's missing his number. It will not invent a metric to fill a tile.

It is not a sales-rep dashboard. It is not a vanity-metrics tool. It is not a project-management app with a face on it. There are good products in those categories. We are not one of them.

TrueRead is a true read on the situation. That is what it is, and what it intends to remain.

The operator

"I ran a roofing company for fourteen years.
I did not have a true read until year nine."

Marcus Lehne grew up in the trade. He ran a 60-crew roofing operation across three states. He missed his number four years in a row before he found the picture that was actually there — and built the tool he wished he'd had.
